Chengshan Lu is home to an ever fluctuating number of small bars. We are going to try and get an up-to-date list of who is operating there very soon. Chengshan Lu is famous for its hospitality and the extreme friendliness of its waitresses. Part of the larger Captains Group - Captains Bar & Grill is an institution in Nantong. Opened in 1996 and run since then by Simon Captains has a large patronage amongst foreign residents. Whilst the British English user in me stops me from ever accepting Color’s name, as a watering hole, I’ve found a true favourite here. Run by the gently giant Max Guo and his consistently charming Maureen, Color was opened last year as a kind of ‘Western-Chinese’ hybrid, a Hard Rock-esque western style bar for the hipper and more alternatively inclined local Chinese youngsters.

Nantong Tigers R.F.C was established in 2003. Since then the team have grown from strength to strength participating in number of China Rugby events including the Shanghai Sevens and International Touch Sevens and the more recent Shanghai Bei (www.shanghaibei.com) The Tigers practice twice a week at Nantong University Teachers Campus from 1330hrs onwards on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wearing their safety helmets in signature orange they can be with you in minutes (at meal times) with varying degrees of culinary delight from 10 RMB to 40RMB.
