Tiger Tiger Bar has started to serve a German plate from today [1st June]. The plate consists of Munich, Frankfurter and Bratwurst sausages mit sauerkraut und mustard. Just 35RMB for small and 55RMB for large plate option. Sehr Schon!

If your looking for Indian food Nantong’s best option is the ‘Indian Kitchen’ situated near the entrance to the Nantong City Museum and inside the Nantong Foreign students compound. Frequented daily by the overseas students who study at Nantong Medical College [part of Nantong University] the ‘Indian Kitchen’ is also open to non-students. At weekends there are a number of meat options but usually through the week its a healthy mix of vegtable dishes. Its very well priced and worth a visit!

FOLOK is Nantong’s new sherpa-esque style delivery service in Nantong. Shanghai Restaurant is part of the Captains Group chain. Situated just down from Captains Bar & Grill its a great place for Chinese banqueting and has been for some years now. The place has an excellent range of Chinese dishes popular with both local and expat customers. There is a large open dining area with banquet tables or if you need something quieter they have private rooms if you book ahead. The place is always busy from around 6-8pm so be sure to book.

The healthiest place to eat in town is Fresh Style, part of the larger Captains Group chain. Fresh Style opened a year ago and since then has been serving up the only worthwhile salad options in the city. A very comprehensive menu with a mix of sandwiches, salads and Chinese meal options. Some of our favorites include the flagship ‘Bacon & Blue’ sandwich and the ‘Daddies Steak’ sandwich. Sandwiches go for about 50-60RMB and salads for around 30-40RMB. Just down the road from the beef noodle place before you get to the Medical College access road on Duan Jia Ba Lu is the Frog Hotpot Shop — characterized by its spicy frog hotpot its a great place for late night post-beer ‘eats’. Open late until about 2 am, sometimes even later.

If your up late or you get up early you could go along to any number of places in Nantong to try a traditional Chinese breakfast. One of our favorite places is toward the junction of Hong Qiao Lu and Duan Jia Ba Lu down the road heading south from the San Teh Hotel. There are all kinds of delights but the most common is either a meat or vegetable filled steamed bun. All these people can’t be wrong!

This place has been very popular recently - a lot of choice and resonably priced. The curry beef rice is very good and goes for around 20RMB. The Beef Noodle place is toward the top of Nan Da Jie just down from the Hua Nong Hotel before you get to the small access road to the Medical College.
