Farewell Uncle Rhys

It is with a very sorry heart we must report the loss of Rhys. Rhys will be heading back to the UK sometime soon to pursue glory. The Team at TT, CHINAssist, HUKIT and the Rugby Club will miss ‘Uncle Rhys’ affectionately referred to on occasion as the ‘Goose’. We all wish him well and hope like other Nantong Legends like Amon he will frequently return to check on the homestead! We will miss you Rhysy!

Jason Mao a student of Dynamic English Training centre and young budding artist is now displaying a number of his sketches at Tiger Tiger Bar. Jason studied art at a local college in Nantong. Jason has started doing sketches from photographs, all you need to do is give him the photos and he will create a very special sketch which makes a great gift. Pop into the bar and ask for more information.

Irish Bar’s Margarita

They are soo good we’re no longer able to recall the price but Irish Pub is surely worth a visit to try David’s Margarita - the only place in Nantong that can make one. Irish Pub is on Chengshan Lu [the strip] about half way down between Natural Bar and Toxic Bar. Irish Pub is also one of the few places on the strip that recognizes that the increased temperature that summer in China brings may require the AC on inside! Stay cool - have a Margarita!

Shanghai Crabs crush the Tigers

It is with a heavy heart we must report that the Tigers lost their game in Shanghai today against the Shanghai Hairy Crabs. Final score was 104-0 against the Tigers who were simpley overpowered by what was a very strong western side with a lot of experience who have been unstoppable this season. The Tigers tried hard and led by Jackie Zhang [their Captain] left with a loss but with their heads held high. Rugby is a developing sport in China and this game was part of the wider Shanghai Bei league [shanghaibei.com] held between teams from Shanghai, Hangzhou and Nantong. Nantong Tigers R.F.C have been playing rugby since 2003 and train twice weekly at Nantong University Teachers’ Campus on wednesday and Saturday at 1330hrs. The South Coast Jazz Bar out near the GUO BIN Hotel area [far side of Langshan] is completely lacking when it comes to Jazz. Jazz it would seem for some is Disco and Disco - Jazz. A nice place to sit on a cool day outside though with great BBQ facilities. The building itself is reminiscent of a Thames boat house with ‘garden makeover’ add on sails lifted above its flashing light front. A round of 2 warm Heineken and an even warmer Watsons soda water go for 95RMB. Nice position, pleasant staff but certainly room for improvement.

Tiger Tiger Bar has started to serve a German plate from today [1st June]. The plate consists of Munich, Frankfurter and Bratwurst sausages mit sauerkraut und mustard. Just 35RMB for small and 55RMB for large plate option. Sehr Schon!

Joe’s Secret Sauce a Big hit at TT’s 1st BBQ

Joe's secret sauce - a big hit!

Tiger Tiger held its first BBQ of 2009 last night. Food was prepared by Joe and cooked on the BBQ by Smash and Coach Yoo. Patrons enjoyed a feast of Pork Chops, Chicken Wings and Drumsticks, Salad, Potatoe Salad, Homemade colslaw and Beef burgers washed down with a Vedett Beer all for just 50RMB. Students from Dynamic English Training Centre were also in attendence with their foreign teachers and all had a great time. Don’t forget that every Sunday is Ladies Night at TIGER TIGER BAR (its free Cocktails for Ladies). We will keep you posted on upcoming events at TT so watch this space! TT tells us that the next BBQ will be the 14th of June.

If your looking for Indian food Nantong’s best option is the ‘Indian Kitchen’ situated near the entrance to the Nantong City Museum and inside the Nantong Foreign students compound. Frequented daily by the overseas students who study at Nantong Medical College [part of Nantong University] the ‘Indian Kitchen’ is also open to non-students. At weekends there are a number of meat options but usually through the week its a healthy mix of vegtable dishes. Its very well priced and worth a visit!

Lithuanian Players and TT patrons drink together

Last night in TT was quite a spectacle. Secretly swept into Nantong for a game against the US Team at the ‘Bao Zi’ stadium and not advertised at all were the Lithuanian National Basketball team. The team stayed til late at TT and today are playing a game in Shanghai against the US Team again. The Lithuanian team are on a weeks tour to play against other international teams in stadia across China. The Nantong Tigers R.F.C and the touring team exchanged signed balls and the Lithuanian’s left wearing fairly unfamiliar clothing for them - the Tigers Rugby shirt. We suspect they will not be playing their best today - Good Luck Lithuania!
