One of our favorite places is toward the junction of Hong Qiao Lu and Duan Jia Ba Lu down the road heading south from the San Teh Hotel. This place has been very popular recently - a lot of choice and resonably priced. The curry beef rice is very good and goes for around 20RMB. The Beef Noodle place is toward the top of Nan Da Jie just down from the Hua Nong Hotel before you get to the small access road to the Medical College.
